History

The Institute's Library was founded in 1974 silmutaneutly with the Institute's Foundation, its organization however was initiated in 1989.
At its start the Library was housed in a 150 square meters area at an old building's wing, soon with the organization of its material and the increse of its users, the inadequacey of the premise bacame apparent.
In 1992 with the neccessary funding the Library moved to the first floor of the new building, over the Concrete laboratory, in a 460 square meters area.Again though the new premises where larger that the previous ones, where not large enough.
Today the Library is being housed in a section of its new premise that is located at the second floor of the same building and occupies 2.300 square meters.

The Library posseses circa 25.000 book volumes and 200 current magazine titles. Contemporary Audiovisual content is also available in the form of VCR, video, CD-ROM, DVD e.t.c as well as free access to the Internet for the users. The Library facilitates the Teaching Staff, the students, the administrative personnel and a large number of technicians, scientists, and proffesionals from the private sector.
With the second European Support Framework Funding the update of the automation System was made possible, the significant increase of its material and the development of its technical infrastucture, in Computers, copier machines that operate with the use of magnetic cards, contemporary publishing infrastucture, bookbinding machines e.t.c. By the third European Support Framework Funding the Library develops an e-Library regarding reusable sources of energy.
This work has proggressed in a significant level and is now on the stage of final Testing.It is accessible through the Library web site.

Timetable

The Library lends its material to its staff and its students and operates for the public during Monday to Friday from 8:30 up to 19:00. The Timetable is valid throughout the academic year, besides bank holidays during which the Library remains closed. During the Summer Period the Library remains open from 8:30 up to 14:00.
