The academic year in Greece begins on 1st September and ends on 31st August of the next year although the tuitional year runs from September 1st through July 5th. It consists of two independent teaching periods, the winter semester and the spring semester.
The winter semester starts on the first Monday after 19th September and the spring semester usually starts the last week of February and ends on July 5th.

Between the two semesters there are a few days of vacation. The Christmas Vacation begins on 23rd December and the Easter Vacation at the beginning of the Easter week. The summer vacation consists of two months (July & August).

Each semester consists of 15 full-time weeks of teaching and two examination periods of two weeks duration each. The examinations for the winter semester take place during the last fortnight of January and the first fortnight of February. The first examination period of the spring semester is the last fortnight of June and the second one the first fortnight of September of the next academic year. In accordance the next academic year at the end of each June.
